As Hurricane Ike prepared to come ashore in Galveston, TX, September 13th, employees of the Mafi-Trench and Atlas Copco repair facility located 35 miles away in LaPorte, TX, began making preparations for the storm. While a few employees did evacuate the area, many stayed home to face the storm. With winds sustaining speeds of 115 miles an hour and storm surge that reached 12 - 14 feet in many places. Many were without power as long as two weeks. With temperatures reaching the high 90's, ice and gas for generators were hard to come by and lines at the gas stations were miles long. During this time, MTC and Atlas Copco employees worked long hours to get the shop opening again on Wednesday, September 18th...even thought it took another week for many in the area to have power restored. During this time, all MTC and Atlas Copco employees provided a helping hand to those less fortunate. Some prepared food for others, helped neighbors clear downed limbs, ran extension cords to supply others with electricity, and checked on elderly neighbors.

Atlas Copco’s U.S. subsidiary Mafi-Trench has won a multi-million dollar order for six turboexpander generators from Enel North America, Inc. The generators will help drive environment-friendly geothermal power plants, producing enough energy to power a medium-sized city.
The order is one of the largest for Mafi-Trench Company LLC, which was acquired by Atlas Copco in July 2007 and is now part of the company’s Gas and Process division. Mafi-Trench has supplied turboexpanders to the gas processing, petrochemical and power recovery markets for three decades.
We see great potential in Mafi-Trench’s products for customers in the renewable energy markets, and for the geothermal industry in particular, says Ronnie Leten,
President of Atlas Copco’s Compressor Technique Business Area. "This is clearly a future growth market for Atlas Copco and we are proud to get this order."
Enel has ordered the machines, with a combined capacity of 84 000 KW, to be used at the Stillwater and Salt Wells geothermal power plants in Nevada, USA. A growing business worldwide, the geothermal industry produces reliable and clean electric power by tapping wells of natural steam or hot water, converting it to electricity with machinery such as Mafi-Trench’s turboexpanders. Enel is one of Europe’s largest utility companies, with headquarters in Italy and operations in over 16 countries. Enel is a global leader in renewable energy generation with over 19 000 MW of installed capacity. The Enel North America subsidiary works exclusively on renewable energy projects.

ANNOUNCING CRYOGENIC INDUSTRIES EXTRAORDINARY ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS - FOUR FROM MAFI-TRENCH
Four Mafi-Trench employees were recently awarded extraordinary achievement awards from Mafi-Trench’s parent company Cryogenic Industries. The Cryogenic Industries annual award is limited to only 10 of the 500+ Cryogenic Industry employees. Bonnie Armstrong, Mike Harman, Nathan James, and Grant Nordwall; all from Mafi-Trench, were awarded engraved Cryogenic Industry trophies for their efforts in 2006 by Mafi-Trench General Manager Jim Reilly.
Bonnie Armstrong has three roles at Mafi-Trench. As HR rep she dealt with a significant increase in staff and new employee payroll issues during 2006 due to MTC’s growth. Additionally, Bonnie was the MTC implementation leader for the roll-out of our new CIGNA health plan. Finally, the growth in MTC business doubled the workload on Bonnie as Accounting Clerk. She was a success in all three roles and is clearly deserving of the Cryogenic Industries Extraordinary Achievement Award.
For Mike Harman 2006 was an extraordinary year for MTC and the manufacturing team. In 2005 we booked double our normal number of orders and in 2006 we built them all on time. As Production Scheduler, Machine Shop Outsourcing Coordinator, and Bulk Materials Purchasing Buyer Mike was “busier than a one armed paper hanger!” 2006’s manufacturing success was a testament to Mike Harman’s foresight and ingenuity. He exemplifies the professional behavior every employee of Cryogenic Industries should strive to emulate.
Nathan James was the most commonly nominated person at Mafi-Trench for the Extraordinary Achievement Award. He received nominations from all departments because he put out an extraordinary effort in implementing MTC’s new Product Center PLM program along with coordinating training for Solid Works, along with his day to day work. He didn't just implement Product Center; instead he studied the needs and workings of each department and set up Product Center to work best with those needs. His upfront research and efforts helped provide the most benefit to users since the new program worked in a logical manner to them.
Grant Nordwall kept a cool head though out a multitude of design and manufacturing questions during 2006. He worked long hours (many 14 hour days and frequent calls late at night during second shift testing) and got his assignments done. When the dust settled, all the jobs he worked on were successful! They met or exceeded their performance goals, and left the shop on schedule. His extraordinary achievement is handling the double, sometimes triple, work load that was piled on him, while remaining focused, pleasant and professional through out is clearly deserving of the Cryogenic Industry Extraordinary Achievement Award.
Mafi-Trench is proud that Cryogenic Industries recognized these four employees as the best of the BEST in 2006!

GPA AWARD PRESENTED TO RON COULTRUP AND CHRISTINE ETHERINGTON --
THE GAS PROCESSORS ASSOCIATION CITATION FOR SERVICE is intended to recognize those individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the gas processing industry - usually through the GPA organization or its committees.
Initiated in 1962, it is a mechanism through which leadership and dedicated service to the Association and the industry can be recognized, even though such service may have been confined to the team effort of committee work, rather than outstanding individual achievement.
The Award consists of an engraved, illuminated scroll that summarizes the individual’s contributions to the industry. It is conferred annually to one or more individuals at GPA’s Annual Convention during the GPA Membership Meeting and President’s Luncheon.
This year we proudly announce that the award was given to Ron Coultrup and Christine Etherington, Forcom Mafi-Trench in Hertfordshire, England. Forcom has been our representation in Western Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and the British Isles for thirty years and it is with great pleasure that we post this announcement.
The GPA Awards program is one of the most visible means by which the Association meets an obligation "to more fully develop the gas producing and processing industry." These awards are also tangible, public evidence of appreciation by the industry, the Association, and industry colleagues to those individuals who have contributed significantly to the advancement and development of the light hydrocarbons industry.
FORCOM RETIREMENT -
It is with regret to announce that as of January 1, 2007, Ron Coultrup, Christine Etherington and Forcom retired as Mafi-Trench’s representatives. Forcom has been partners with Mafi-Trench since MTC started 30 years ago and MTC has grown to be the prime supplier of hydrocarbon turboexpander systems. We owe much of our success to Forcom.
Ron and Christine will continue as consultants to Mafi-Trench to assist as they hand over representation to their successors, Mr. Yahia I. Abul-Ela and Mr. Geoffrey T. Barrow from Barela Group in Henham, UK.

PRESTIGIOUS SUPPLIER AWARDS FROM THE
BELANAK FPSO PROJECT
NOVEMBER 6TH CELEBRATION
Mafi-Trench (MTC) was first named Supplier of the Month in July 2002 for delivering supplier excellence. This month Conoco/Phillips has awarded MTC the prestigious Gold Award for excellent performance throughout the project.
MTC designed and manufactured two critical pieces of turbomachinery for service in a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel for an international oil and gas project in SE Asia. This development, called the Belanak project, is located in the South China Sea offshore of Malaysia. The primary owner of the project is Conoco, and the Engineering and Construction company is Kellogg Brown & Root in Singapore. This FPSO has the capability to produce 100,000 barrels of oil per day, can store up to a million barrels onboard, as well as process over 450 million standard cubic feet of natural gas.
The Belanak Team took a very aggressive role to insure a successful project, launching a program entitled Belanak Supplier Quality Initiative (BSQI). Over 200 suppliers were evaluated, tracking performance over a wide variety of criteria, including Quality, Zero Cost Growth, Safety, Documentation and Communication. Only 61 suppliers qualified for the Gold Award, which is the highest award possible.
MTC attended the Belanak FPSO launch ceremony in Batam Island, Indonesia on November 6th, represented by Mr. Ton Schonk, Director of Enholco PTE Ltd. in Singapore. Mr. Schonk formally received our Gold Award from Senior Conoco/Phillips and KBR Executives on behalf of Rik Krull, President of MTC.
